Most brides underestimate how much lead time hand-embroidered wear actually needs. A heavily worked bridal lehenga can take six to eight weeks from first fitting to final delivery, and that clock needs to start well before the wedding season crunch hits every atelier at once.

Start with the wedding-day outfit first — it carries the most embroidery hours and the highest risk of delay. Book your first fitting appointment as soon as the date and venue are locked, even if the rest of the trousseau is still undecided.

Function wear (mehndi, haldi, sangeet) can be ordered on a shorter runway, usually three to four weeks, since the embroidery is lighter and the silhouettes are simpler. Leave these for the middle of your planning window.

Reception and after-party pieces — gowns, cocktail sarees — are the most forgiving on time and can often be finalised within two to three weeks of the event. Use this flexibility to your advantage if your trousseau budget or decisions are still evolving.

Whatever the piece, build in a buffer of at least two weeks between "expected delivery" and the actual event date. Alterations, travel, and last-minute styling changes always take longer than planned.
